The Mother Ship...

...has landed.

As our efforts continue to revamp our Bermuda Room there needed to be an investment in technology. That investment began yesterday with the purchase of the most ginormous television I've ever seen in my own home.

The LG V5500 LCD HDTV - the 55 in the model number is the size. 55" of HD goodness.  This thing is so monstrously huge it really does look like aliens have landed in our house.  Along with its size this baby also comes Internet-ready, WiFi-ready and includes premium apps for NetFlix, YouTube, Facebook and much more.  Setting it up was pretty easy - it's all plug-and-play these days.

Given that it's been 10 years since we purchased a TV - this was a revelation.  And lest I forget ... that last TV we bought is a 27" flat screenNot flat panel - flat screen tube.

We've more than doubled our viewing screen.  It's - intimidating.

For now it is in our living room as the Bermuda Room has no furniture right now. That will change as of this weekend and the ship will be moved to the new room.

The purchase included an LG BluRay player for which we purchased a few choice movies.  Last night we watched the rebooted Star Trek - oh my dear lord!  The people looked like they were in the room with us.  Their heads are easily more than 2x life size in close-ups.

Oh yeah and those close-ups? You can see the pores of their skin!  I've never seen such detail, so much color saturation it's almost more than the brain can process.  (Oh and the movie? It was incredible - a great tribute to the original series with a cleverly-rebooted story line that opens up a world of possibilities for the franchise to be re-born.)

Once we get all of this settled in the new room, there will be an in-house consultation for the home theater sound system.  We started talking about that yesterday and we may get ahead of our needs with a receiver capable of three zones and 7 speakers - meaning we can put speakers outside on our back deck and play music thru them.

Wirelessly. Remotely.

Which makes my little Bose Docking Station for our iPods, iPhones and iPad seem so 2005.

Suffice it to say that The Oracle is in hog-heaven right now.  This kind of technology is right up is alley and he's having a field day.  The fact that I'll enjoy it right along with him is making this a very fun experience.

Expensive.  But fun.

You missed an opportunity here to score major points, Kris. Hint: the playoffs begin tomorrow.

You should be careful, Kris. Given the time zone differential I'd be monopolizing your teevee from 1900 hrs until oh-dark-thirty. The last game begins at 2230 hrs, your time!
