“I don’t understand why police officers across this country don’t stand up collectively and say we’re going to go on strike, we’re not going to protect you unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what’s required to keep us safe,’’ he told CNN’s Piers Morgan.
“Police officers want to go home to their families. And we’re doing everything we can to make their job more difficult, but more importantly, more dangerous, by leaving guns in the hands of people who shouldn’t have them and letting people who have those guns buy things like armor piercing bullets.’’
The "he"? NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Even so - calling for nationwide anarchy?
And worse ... insulting the police by insinuating that they would shirk their responsibilities and forsake the oath they took to serve and protect - all to advance the political ideology of someone else. Law enforcement ... not law creation, not law defiance.
There is of course the old saying - when seconds count the police are minutes away.
And that is not a slam against our brave LEOs. It's just the cold hard truth. It is rare that a police officer actually gets to stop a crime before it happens. Unless you get lucky when you call 911 and an officer just happens to be cruising around your neighborhood - you are on your own for several minutes. Minutes that could mean your life or the life of someone attacking you or a loved one.
I know that many LEOs don't particularly like citizens to have guns in their homes or on their person however the LEOs that I know agree that they can't always be there when they are needed the most - and having the ability to defend yourself against someone intent on doing you or a loved one harm is of paramount importance.
Bloomberg is an idiot - which is no surprise to anyone who can process a simple thought. What I find truly egregious about this is that he is using the murder of 12 innocent people as leverage for his own political agenda.
I know - he's a politician and that's what they do. But sometimes a person does hope that just once - they wouldn't fit their steretype.
